Kruger National Park : Lockdown Day 83 - Wednesday 17 June

We were up at 4am, ready for another day trip into Kruger Park. We entered at Orpen Gate this time. It was overcast and raining most of the morning but despite the weather we saw lots of game and birds, especially raptors. Our bird list is up to 152.
Today in Kruger I was so sad to see things so quiet. Satara take-away restaurant was open and they said they hadn't had any customers all day. We saw maybe 8 cars in 10 hours. Be careful what you wish for. All those times we complained about 20 cars at 1 lion sighting, unruly drivers, too many Safari tours and difficulty getting bookings in peak season. This is so much worse. Tourism and Hospitality are on the brink of collapse, not only here in South Africa but in many other countries. Millions face unemployment. Without the tourist income, African wildlife will not exist for future generations. And every one of us can make a difference by booking now, paying now and travelling as soon as things open up.
