99 days and counting. Sometimes in my old life I used to wonder what life would have been like if I had made any different choices along the way. Well here I am living an alternate life. And this life confirms to me that it's not the actual circumstances but our attitude towards those circumstances that matters.
I learnt this being an expat.
No place, no situation, no relationship is perfect. You take the good with the bad. Hopefully you find yourself in a place where the good outways the bad. Hopefully you embrace the upsides and manage the downsides.
Maybe that's why I have many so favourite places.
Today we had a Thai BBQ on the deck for dinner. Many authentic elements were missing but we filled in the gaps with lots of wonderful memories and the essence of that experience that is within us. That's the part you can't know from reading it in a book or watching it on You Tube. And that's about as philosophical as I'm ever going to get about travel, friends, food and life.
PS. We enjoyed the Oak Valley Chardonnay more than the usual Chang Beer.
