The Lake District and The Yorkshire Dales

Saturday 20 November to Friday 26 November 2021
We swopped timeshare points for a week in a cabin at the Pine Lake Resort near Lancaster which proved to be an excellent location to explore both the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District.
The days were getting shorter so we tried to be out early to make the most of the day light hours; enjoying lunches out most days. By 5pm it was dark so we would head back to the cabin for an early supper and some TV. Neil is obsessed with scouting the charity shops and bought us games to play too. Stephen even found his Christmas sweater at a charro.
I'll let the pictures tell the stories of some of the places we went and some of the things we enjoyed.

Bamburgh, Durham, Vindolanda

Thursday 18 November and Friday 19 November 2021
Heading South from Edinburgh we crossed the border back into England. We detoured to drive onto Lindisfarne Holy Island. We had to rush to make it back onto the mainland to beat high tide when the road becomes submerged. In Bamburgh we snacked on a deliously famous meat pie. We enjoyed good birdwatching on the road to Seahouses. Byers Green just outside Durham for the night. Uber Eats delivered curry to the room. The next day we spent a great time at Durham Cathedral. Here's our first ride on public transport since before lockdown. We drove through the North Pennines to follow Hadrians Wall westwards and we enjoyed the Vindolanda Roman Museum. Most nights I try and find us a traditional BnB for the night with a cosy pub for dinner and a Full English in the morning. The Belted Will Inn in Hallbankgate fitted that bill just fine.
