Costa, Costa, Costa Blanca

Heading south again from the Costa Brava we were off to the Costa Blanca, to spend a few days with Greg and Sarah near Altea. South of Barcelona the coast just goes on forever - Costa Daurada, Costa del Azahar and Costa de Valencia. It's not very pretty along here; too flat and too dry with miles and miles of ""flat strip of sand meets flat edge of sea". There are plenty of resort developments and campsites. We did stop over at a few places along the way and towns we quite liked include Sitges and Peniscola. Most of the big resort campsites are packed to the gills at in August with families from all over Europe. As long as there is access to a beach, loads of sunshine and "Animation"everyone is happy. "Animation" is a program of organised entertainment mostly geared towards kids but with adult options like aqua aerobics or volleyball tournaments. Every evening all the parents have to watch kiddies and tweenies performing silly songs with actions on stage. This usually morphs into some sort of poolside disco that blares on until midnight. I know, that aged 10, I would have nagged my parents to death to be able to join in with every single activity but now we cook in and watch TV series on the computer until the early hours!
As you head towards the Costa Blanca the coastline improves a lot with a more mountainous shore with coves and cliffs and pretty beaches.
We camped for a week in a great campsite in Calpe, a few hundred metres from the town and the beach.
We spent a few nights with Greg,Sarah,Caitlyn and Liam in Peublo Muscarat. They had a great apartment with fantastic views over a private cove with a hefty climb down to  a quiet, stony beach. We had dinner in Altea and a braai or two on their terrace. A view, balmy weather, great company and it's amazing how easily all that good Spanish plonk goes down! Luckily Liam was happy to give up his room for us so we didn't have to face the tunnels and knife-edged hairpin bends back to Calpe on the scooter at 2 or 3am.
And so, back up the coast again with a few days in Barcelona and another few up on the northern Costa Brava before crossing into France.
