Never have I ever...spent so much time planning and preparing for a trip! Neil, being a big picture kinda guy, plotted a rather ambitious grand trip around Zimbabwe well over a year in advance. Once our group committed I set about making bookings. Forex transactions into Zim to pay all the deposits wasn't easy. Some lodges and the Houseboat we chose on Lake Kariba accept payment into SA bank accounts. There was a cash crisis ( or no notes obtainable from an ATM ) in Zim so all cash ( in US Dollars ) must be arranged upfront. Credit Card facilities may or may not be working, even in upmarket hotels in touristy areas. Fuel may or may not be available at the pumps. You had better not breakdown, even in a Toyota. And for that matter, don't get too sick.
Gail and Neil :Old Toyota Hilux and Explorer off road caravan...
Elizabeth and Randolf: Passengers in the Hilux with a ground tent...
Hanlie and Andrew : Landover Discovery and large camping trailer...
Danie and John: Toyota Fortuner and Oz ground tent...
Rina and Menon: Toyota Landcruiser with roof top tent....

Thursday 14 September 2017 : Shopping done, we collect Elizabeth and Randolf at the airport and drive to the farm for the big pack.
Friday 15 September 2017: After everyone's last minute shopping we rendezvous at Matamba Bush Camp; still in South Africa and a chance to check all the kit, repack and reorganise, sort out the tents and enjoy an evening around the fire. Are we all still happy campers? It's too late to pull out now.
