Although it's quiet here, it's never boring. A tree frog took up residence in a lantern. We're not sure how he got in and hopefully with the lid off he'll be on his way soon.
We have been watching a few pairs of Blackheaded Orioles dashing about the trees for a week now. They are gorgeous yellow and black birds with a beautiful liquid song when they are still but not in flight. The notes courtesy of Robert's Bird App explain the behaviour.
"BREEDING: Monogamous, solitary nester, territorial. In presumed courtship, 2 birds flew fast in and out of bushes, bill to tail, with hind bird keeping up a squeaky squee,ak - squee,ik - squeeeek...,"
We got ham and a giant salami and wonderful fresh salads with our grocery delivery.. Inspired ( vaguely ) by Muffaletta, a giant New Orleans sandwich, I made open sandwiches for lunch.
We attended a Zoom party for Eric's birthday. Guests from Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, South Africa, the US and the UK logged in. The irony of living in a global society but not being able to go anywhere!
SA's president announced an easing of lockdown rules from May 1, mostly related to getting some sectors of the economy back to work. Still no non essential travel allowed and the provincial borders will remain closed so we're going to be "Lost in Limpopo" for a lot longer.
So far there are only 27 cases reported in the province, so I guess we are pretty safe here in the bush.
