Safari 2021: Swakopmund, Namibia

Monday 10 May to Wednesday 12 May
Lockdown Day 410 to 412

Three days of perfect weather in Swakopmund. We camped at Tiger Reef campsite. Tiger Reef Beach Bar is the best thing about this campsite. Awesome cocktails and sunsets. We had a great German dinner at the Altstadt Restaurant and Beergarden. We enjoyed the rolls and pastries from Raith's German Bakery. One day we drove on the beach out to Pelican Point, a lighthouse on the tip of a long, sandy peninsula. There were thousands of cormorants on the beach and beautiful flamingoes and pelicans. We were also lucky enough to see the beach jackals.
The next day we drove North along the coast to Cape Cross Seal Colony, home to thousands of breeding seals. It stinks! We had to shower and wash our clothes when we got back to get rid of the smell.
Ronell and Johan bought fresh Kabeljou from a local fisherman for a delicious fish braai. Neil and I have decided we could spend a few months in Swakopmund next time.
