Lockdown Day 57 - Friday 22 May

Yay! Today we went shopping in Hoedspruit! This is the first time we've left the property in over 8 weeks. We went a bit crazy in the store - we have enough food to last us 6 months! The cooking will continue!
It's a glamorous look; homemade mask, pixie ears, straggly hair and a backpack! The flowering Impala Lily is a good backdrop.
Facebook just had to remind me that on this day in 2016, we were in New Orleans with Stephen and Vivienne. From loaded Bloody Mary's and Jazz for brunch, to a few rounds of 10- pin at the Rock and Bowl and a night out bar hopping in crowded Bourbon Street!

Lockdown Day 56 - Thursday 21 May

We woke up to the sound of heavy rain. The downpour lasted about an hour. This unseasonal rain bodes well for a good winter with no drought. The veld is still green. We languished in bed until well after nine. That's what happens when there's nowhere to go and no-one to meet.
We cooked a stuffed pork neck in the potjie pot on the fire. The softest, juiciest meat we've had in a while.
I sewed another mask and made my shopping list and got an early-ish night in anticipation for the great adventure tomorrow. We're going to Hoedspruit!😂

Lockdown Day 55 - Wednesday 20 May

I could never become bored in a Game Reserve. Neil and I still eagerly point out every animal and bird we see everyday. Even if nothing extraordinary happens.
Today our featured bird is the beautiful Green Pigeon. The "garden" has quite a few Wild Fig trees growing near the water that can fruit all year round and the pigeons love them.
Cooking and blogging are clearly my favourite pastimes these days.
We had Upma (an Indian dish of maize meal ) for brunch and a meatloaf/ beef wellington/ sausage roll combo for dinner.

Lockdown Day 54 - Tuesday 19 May

An elephant was stomping around outside the back door in the early hours of the morning, keeping us awake. I tried to take a photo, no luck.
Best compliment of the day from Neil.
" You are not generic! "
Just like trip planning and to do list apps, grocery list apps are so lacking in flexibility and practicality and just don't work for me. So today I created my own Masterlist and using split-screen and voice to text I have what I need.
We cooked Toad in the Hole for dinner. Britsh food, perhaps like most things British, is hearty but not glamorous.💡 The difference between London and Paris!
