Ithala Game Reserve

Sunday 13 to Tuesday 15 December
Lockdown Day 262 to 264

It's an interesting and scenic drive through Northern KZN from Hluhluwe to Itala.
Itala is such a beautiful reserve with rolling green hills, rivers, gorges and cliffs. Over three days we were able to drive all the routes in Ithala enjoying the birds and the game.
Rina saw a black rhino one morning when she was the only one up and about early enough. The camp had no electricity when we arrived due to an Eskom breakdown and power was only restored 36 hours later. Luckily we are well equipped with lights and torches. We decided to have dinner at the restaurant which had generator power. Our meals were surprisingly good, so we splashed out on desserts and two rounds of Dom  Pedros. The following evening Menon cooked curry on our gas stove on the verandah and we played cards. Luckily we had our Flexopower portable battery to keep lights on and phones charged. This is one of a few new gadgets we have invested in that make living on the road so much easier. Another is the cellphone signal booster in the car. On long journeys we can make calls, do banking, make reservations and listen to Spotify or podcasts without the signal ever dropping out. My all time favourite though is the slide out, drop down freezer in the back of the Cruiser which has been working non-stop for 2 months now. Let's add Global knives, coffee plunger, ziplock bags and paper towel. Don't leave home without these.
