Addo Elephant Park - Part Two

Lockdown Day 319 and 320
Monday 8 February to Tuesday 9 February

We extended our stay by two nights. On Monday we drove out to Harpoor Dam to find hundreds of elephants there. We watched them for a few hours. The park is very dry due to quite a few years of drought so the ellies do need to come to a waterhole to drink. The Addo elephants are generally smaller than the ones in Kruger and 80% of females here are tuskless. There are 600 elephants in Addo and they are trying to control numbers using contraception. We have heard many sad Covid related stories from friends and family this week and the news that the Astra Zeneca vaccine delivered to South Africa won't be as effective against the new strain is disappointing.
We are watching cricket and tennis and a lot of cooking shows on TV. We are enjoying a show called Somebody Feed Phil and this episode he was in Mexico City. Our long term schedule had us in Mexico right now, so I made Heuvos Tirados for brunch instead. Refried beans and scrambled eggs on flour tortillas served with plantain. We had ours on toast with fried banana but that's what happens when you're in a game park and your pantry is in the boot of your car!
