Fish River Canyon : Namibia

Wednesday 17 February
Lockdown Day 328

I haven't felt so excited about crossing a border in a long time. Well it's been 11 months since we needed our passports which for us is totally odd. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, the roadsides covered in brilliant yellow flowers. The border posts were so quiet we breezed through both sides in a few minutes. And we were in Namibia. Back on the road and I felt like a different person. Free. And relaxed.
A few hours later we checked in at Canyon Roadhouse, a delightfully quirky motor-themed roadside hotel in the Ai-Ais National Park. It feels like you're on Route 66 in New Mexico or California. Instead of a side trip to the Grand Canyon, there's the Fish River Canyon, second biggest canyon in the world after the Grand one. We drove out to Hobas for a look at the Fish River Canyon. We were literally the only people out there. We had a whole canyon and a whole national park to ourselves. Wow!
