And then we are heading South through Austria and before we know it we are crossing the Alps into Italy and the weather and everything else is just better.
Camping Verona Village is a new 5 star campsite on a good bus route into the city and then as if like magic, I am strolling down the marble streets of central Verona on a balmy evening. Pandemic? What pandemic?
And then we are tasting Amarones in our favourite Bottego Antico Vini, where you can get at least 40 different wines by the glass.
They wangle us a table for dinner and even though this place is a little touristy we settle for the 4 course tasting menu. One speciality in Verona is Amarone Rissotto which definitely tastes a lot better than it looks.
We love strolling off the beaten tracks finding local cafes and winebars. Recommendations include trendy Osteria Del Bugiardo and the dusty old Enoteca Storica O del Zovo. It's hard to find a restaurant that's not super touristy in a city like Verona. We don't want English on the menu. And we try and pick a place filled with Italian speakers. Osteria Caffe Monte Baldo was great.
